About ‘Young Reciters’

‘Young Reciters’ is an international virtual Quran recitation competition organised by Al Khaadem in an attempt to promote the spirit of learning the Quran among the youth. In this day and age of technology, we want to make full use of the online platforms bestowed upon us by Allah and further serve mankind in motivating and giving opportunity to the youth of today to improve and test themselves on their knowledge of reciting the Quran. All in hopes that one day, they may become the ‘Future Guardians of the Revelation’.

Judges

Sheikh Dr. Youcef Bensala

Sheikh Dr. Youcef Bensala holds a PhD in Comparative Religion from the University of Malaya. He is currently the Head of Shariah & Arabic Department of The University of Science and Technology in Yemen. Sheikh Youcef is a Hafiz of the 10 Qira’at, from Sheikhs in different parts of the world (Madina, Mauritania, Algeria and Egypt among others), with experience of over 18 years as Imaam & Lecturer. Sheikh Dr. Youcef is currently a lecturer at Birmingham College for Humanities.

Sheikhah Zaynab Talha

Sheikhah Zaynab Talhah is a Quran teacher hails from Algeria with more than 10 years experience of teaching the Book of Allah. Sheikhah is a Hafizah of the Quran, holding 2 Sanads of Riwayah Warsh ‘an Nafi’ and Hafs ‘an ‘Asim. She is also a PHD holder in Quran from University Malaya, Malaysia. With hundreds of students across the globe, Sheikah Zaynab is well-loved for her Tajweed and beautiful recitation.

Ustaz Mohammad Al-Amin

Ustaz Mohammad Amin is a Guinean national currently serving as the principal of Sahlah academy. Hàfiz with 2 Sanads, over 10 years in teaching Quran and Tajweed in different places around the world. He is also pursuing his PhD in Seaport Management, got his Masters in Transport and Logistics and a Bachelor Degree in Business Law.

Terms & Conditions
  1. The theme of Al-Khaadem’s Young Reciters Online Tilawah Competition 2021 is Future Guardians of The Revelation.
  2. This competition is open to all aged between 5 – 17 years old worldwide.
  3. There are 4 categories:
    • Category A (5 – 6 years old in December 2021)
    • Category B (7 – 9 years old in December 2021)
    • Category C (10 – 12 years old in December 2021)
    • Category D (13 – 17 years old in December 2021)
  4. Selected surahs are categorised by age group as stated above. 
  5. This competition consists of TWO (2) rounds:  
    • Round #1: Online Video Submission
    • Round #2: Virtual Grand Finale
  6. Competition timeline: 
    • 20th Nov – 6th Dec : Video Submission Period 
    • 7th – 10th Dec : Public Voting on AKYTV YouTube Channel 
    • 10th Dec : Announcement of Finalists 
    • 18th Dec : Virtual Grand Finale (LIVE on Zoom) 
  7. All participants must submit their entries through their parents or teacher representative.
  8. Participants are required to submit a video of their recitation based on the chosen surah. The maximum duration of the video is 3 mins. 5 participants from each category will then be selected and proceed to the Grand Finale. Video submission will be closed on 6th Dec 2021, 2pm Malaysia (GMT +08).
  9. The Grand Finale is a LIVE performance via Zoom. Finalists will be judged by a panel of expert judges in the field of Quranic recitation.
  10. 3 winners from each category will be selected by the judges and judges decisions are final.
  11. All participants will receive an e-Certificate of Participation. 
  12. Al Khaadem has the right to edit, amend, and/or reject any videos submitted. Entrants assign copyright of content by submission.

Online Video Submission
  1. Video must be in either MOV or MP4 format. 
  2. Video submission title 
    format: 
    CATEGORY_SURAHNUMBER_STUDENTNAME 
    _TEACHER/PARENT.mov/mp4 
    Example: A_3_ABDULLAH_KHADIJAH.mov/mp4 
  3. Only one entry per participant. 
  4. All participants are expected to come dressed in appropriate Islamic attire. 
  5. Recite at a moderate pace and do not rush.
  6. Throw your voice out and recite clearly.
  7. Do not edit your video. Edited videos will be automatically disqualified. 
  8. Participants are required to be in front of the camera. Audio recording submission will not be accepted.
  9. You are allowed to recite looking at the mushaf.
Camera Technical Criteria
  1. Record your video with a white or plain background.
  2. Record your video in a landscape orientation.
  3. Your image should be seen from chest-and-above length. 
  4. You are advised to use a clip microphone (the one that comes with your headphones) for voice clarity.
  5. Ensure that you have an adequate amount of lighting (a bright room preferably) for your video.
  6. Start your recording after 5 sec of silence and be silent for 5 sec before ending the recording.
  7. Don’t forget to give your best!
Judging of Online Video Submission
  1. All videos submitted will be posted on AKYTV YouTube Channel.
  2. Videos are judged as follows:
    • Panel of judges: Based on judging criteria (90%)
    • Public participation: Online votes (10%) on AKYTV YouTube Channel based on video likes
  3. Public voting period is between 7th December 2021, 11am Malaysia (GMT+08) to 10th December 2021, 11am Malaysia (GMT+08).
  4. Votes received after 11am Malaysia (GMT+08) will NOT be accepted.

Finalists of the Virtual Grand Finale will be contacted via email/mobile on the 10th December 2021.

Rules of Tajweed and Makharij:
  • Rules of Nun Sakinah and Tanwin
  • Rules of Mim Sakinah
  • Makhraj and Sifat Huruf
  • Rules of Nun and Mim Mushaddadah
  • Rules of Ra’ and Lam
  • Rules of Mad
  • Rules of Qalqalah
  • Rules of Waqf and Ibtida’
Voice and Performance:
  • Recite the Quranic verses loud and clear
  • Beautify the recitation with melody
  • Calm and Careful recitation
  • Tadabbur (Contemplation) on the recited ayat
Quality of Recitation and Fluency:
  • Continuous flow of recitation while maintaining the Rules of Tajweed.
  • Able to balance between applying the Rules of Tajweed and beautifying the recitation
  • Originality in voice modulation
